New Brunswick Community programs

Mother and Child Learning Center (MCLC)

In putting together the after school program we received a lot of inquiry calls for younger children ages 3-5. As a result we are looking forward to starting a morning program daily for 2.5 hours a day during the academic year. The general idea is to create a basic learning skills program for young children and their mothers, learning colors, numbers, the alphabet, shapes, etc. This academic and social foundation will assist the children as they prepare for Kindergarten. As much of the population is Latino, this program will help the children as well as the parents, exposing them to the English language. Games and activities will reinforce language acquisition while having fun.

The Mother and Child Learning Center will be operated by two staff personnel. The budget for this program is separated into two categories - 1) salaries and 2) programming and operations. The cost per student and parent is less than six dollars per day. As in all we do, our efforts are to keep the budget in check, keeping it as affordable as possible.
