X-Cite Night

As youth develop through adolescence, they need outlets for their changing lives. They crave challenges, excitement and new activities that expand their horizons and develop a sense of belonging. Kids require a safe place to explore new avenues and expand healthy relationships with peers and caring adults. X-Cite Nite's are a free, fun filled and an exciting experience that encourages an active time of positive interactions for the youth of the area. During the evenings through the school year this program challenges the youth with interactive team building and cooperative competitions to emphasize character and team-building skills.

Many times it will draw them out of their comfort zones and unite them with other youth that are not their usual friends. Different age groups meet on separate evenings. A positive message in character development, morals or ethics is presented by one of the staff members during each session. Nutritious snacks and beverages are provided for those attending. Over the years many lasting friendships have evolved through this activity.

We currently have fifty-one volunteers that assist with the evening programs who require the supervision of a full time staff member. Some of the equipment that is used has been purchased in the past and reused year after year. New supplies get purchased as the need arises. Every week different interactive team building games are played which always keep the children coming back to see what is going to happen next. The youth are taken out of their personal friendships and mixed together with participants, which causes them to exit their comfort zones and work together with others to win. The participants receive points for everything in which they take part in and especially for winning at the competitive games. Quarterly the points can be "cashed-in" for rewards (i.e. candy, snacks, novelty merchandise, sports equipment or saved to be put towards the cost of a special event). This event is a highlight of the quarter for most of these children. Their concept is usually they get something for nothing, but actually they have worked very diligently achieving their reward.

Having this preventative program helps to keep the children off the streets in the evenings. YES strives to be a productive avenue for youth to seek us rather than the many negative elements around them.

X-Cite Nite provides a positive atmosphere for kids to develop healthy relationships, grow in their character and build self-esteem.
