My name is Andrea Rojas! I’m a first-year student at Rutgers University and I’m from Audubon, New Jersey. My prospective major is Journalism and Media Studies.
How did you first get involved at YES?
I tutored kids back in high school, so when I was offered the opportunity to tutor kids through my work study I took it. I really enjoy working with kids, so it was an obvious pick for me.
You have one Saturday free to yourself. How do you spend it?
I would go for a run or to the gym, then watch a show on Netflix (preferably The Office), and then spend some time with my friends.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
I would go to Spain because I speak Spanish. They have beautiful sceneries and some of the best food in the world. Also, I love that they have such a rich culture.
What is your favorite thing about being a part of YES?
Seeing the kids improve and feel more confident in their abilities. I can relate to a lot of them in their home life, so I feel like it really helps me connect with them.
