Some great things have been happening at our A2E programming at Roosevelt Elementary led by the Youth Empowerment Club. Here are some of those highlights...
Students at A2E show an improvement in reading.
Science activities and games were added to the open activity portion of A2E. In addition to homework help and literacy, feedback from volunteers indicated that the kids should be exposed to science, curiosity, and a sense of trying to understand the world.
During the open activity section of A2E, we have utilized some Rutgers clubs to come in to teach the kids. Examples: Rutgers AIAA, Rutgers Belly Dance Troupe, Rutgers Filipino Martial Arts, etc...
The Youth Empowerment Club established a partnership with Panera Bread, where they give us their extra food from the day. We use their pastries for snacks for the kids and we send bread home with the kids to their families.
We were featured in the NJTV Special, "In Your Neighborhood: New Brunswick", that highlighted the connections that exist between Rutgers and New Brunswick. Check out the video here!
We were also featured in the RU CARES event, "Leading Together", where club president Eshan gave a student's perspective on service and leadership in the Rutgers community.
So far this semester, A2E has utilized over 1,284 volunteer hours!
